A dental implant is a small screw shaped unit made from titanium and can be an ideal solution for replacing missing teeth. Dr Sandeep Arora has a keen interest in dental implants which led him to complete a 2-year postgraduate qualification on implants from the University of Melbourne in 2008. Since then, he has continually worked on all aspects of dental implantology including surgically placing implants in the jawbone, allowing you to have all stages of your implant done with us. Having a dental implant involves several stages which are discussed below.
A detailed examination to assess the health of the gums and a radiograph to assess bone level and density is particularly important. At this stage, a careful dental plan will be made outlining the timing of each additional stage, a full breakdown of the cost and other concerns the patient or dentist may have (e.g. low bone levels requiring a further stage).
Thus, this will be your first step towards your implant and related goals.
The next step involves a titanium screw being placed in the jawbone. This is a relatively pain-free surgical procedure and is usually done in the dental chair under local anaesthetic. An integration period (where the bone adapts to the titanium screw) begins after the procedure and normally continues for a 10-12 week duration, but can vary for each person. A temporary replacement of the tooth may be required during this period. Once the bone attachment is achieved, due care will be taken in restoring the implant with a porcelain (ceramic) tooth to accomplish optimal functional and aesthetic results.
Keeping the gums healthy surrounding the implant is very important and will increase the life of the implant. Aftercare check-ups are therefore imperative.
